(San Francisco) Reportedly Americans widely believe in God and lead the world in the percentage of citizens in prison and on parole. That is actual reality from an imaginary character in a TV show. The Gallup Poll also says it is true and has been for years.

Most Americans believe that nuke reactors are safe and quite sound, too. Wonder why they do that?

Most people at one time in their lives watched as steam escapes from a pressure cooker and accept it as real and true. A reactor is very much the same thing. The “cooks,” called “Operators,” even take the lid off from time to time too.

A nuclear reactor is just an expensive, overly complicated way to heat water to make steam. Of course all reactors leak!

All nuclear reactors also actually manufacture more than 1,946 dangerous and known radioactive metals, gases and aerosols. Many isotopes, such as radioactive hydrogen, simply cannot be contained. So, they barely even try. It is mostly just a show for the rubes.[1]

The four exploded reactors, still burning in Japan after two years, are like dropping four radioactive GBU-39 Bombs[2] down a Bunker vent guaranteeing an astonishing 100% Cancer & Heart Disease rate in surviving personnel. Except, in this case, the whole planet gets zapped.

The US reactors – embrittled, decrepit and crippled – are run about 20% harder than their nameplate capacity, thanks to an always obliging and ever-so-helpful Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC.) The “Commission” likes to act as if they monitor public health; but, the NRC never met a little nuke reactor UpRate Request they did not like.

That means the aging nukes are run hotter and harder at higher temps and pressures while the “Commission” aggressively monitors the resulting decline in public health.

Predictably, these devious snake oil salesmen are amping up to Approve the Restart of FukuUSA, the badly broken big San Onofre Nukes in San Diego, California. The San Onofre Nuke Reactors are built on land leased from Camp Pendleton.

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is the major West Coast base of the United States Marine Corps and serves as its prime amphibious training base for Assault Craft Unit 5.

Description
A staff member at Porter Elementary in the San Diego Unified School District, 4800 T St., has an infection caused by the meningococcal bacteria, according to officials with the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). The last time the staff member was at school was March 15. HHSA has already notified people who have been in close contact with the individual that they should receive antibiotics to prevent any possible infection. None of those close contacts were from the school. The individual with the infection is being treated at a local hospital. “The risk to individuals who are not in direct contact with the infected individual is minimal,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., county public health officer. “Meningococcal disease is spread through close contact with the person infected.” This is the third case of meningococcal disease reported in 2013.

Employee at Porter Elementary School Diagnosed with Meningococcal Bacterial Infection

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A staff member at Porter Elementary School has an infection caused by meningococcal bacteria, making that person the third case of the illness reported in San Diego County this year, county health officials said Friday.

The staff member was last at the school March 15, and is being treated at a hospital, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. Officials said they had notified those who had been in close contact with the infected individual, none of whom were from the school.

“The risk to individuals who are not in direct contact with the infected individual is minimal,” county public health officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said. “Meningococcal disease is spread through close contact with the person infected.”

The bacteria is spread through contact, such as sharing drinking glasses, eating utensils, or water bottles. It also can be spread by kissing and living in close quarters.

County health officials said people who had close contact with the infected individual should receive preventative antibiotics, but antibiotics are not recommended for those who were not in close contact.

They should, however, be aware of possible symptoms including fever, intense headache, lethargy, stiff neck and a rash that does not blanch under pressure, and make sure they have received the recommended vaccination against the disease, HHSA officials said.

The time between exposure to the disease and the onset of symptoms can be between two to 10 days.

HHSA officials said they were working with federal, state and Baja California health officials to determine if local cases were linked to the 18 cases diagnosed in Tijuana since Jan. 4, including six deaths.

The Porter Elementary School staff member was the third person diagnosed with the disease locally this year, according to the HHSA.

A 39-year-old San Diego County man, who had not traveled to Tijuana, died of meningococcal disease last week. A 1-year-old was hospitalized with the illness last month, but survived.

Since 2005, the number of cases of meningococcal disease each year in San Diego County ranged from four to 14.

Quake shakes inland region of Southern California

A moderate earthquake shook a wide area of Southern California on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor struck at 9:55 a.m. PT in a remote, mountainous area northeast of San Diego and was estimated to be magnitude 4.7 (earlier reports gave it a magnitude of 5.1). The quake’s center was 16 miles south of Palm Desert, Calif. There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.

Several smaller seismic events were also reported around the same time.

According to Leslie Gordon of the USGS, the initial magnitude reports are generated by computer and automatically sent out. Those reports are revised after data are reviewed by USGS seismologists.

The quake was “a little tricky to analyze” because of a small quake that preceded the larger event, said USGS seismologist Susan Hough. That threw off some of the instruments, she said, and so the depth of the quake as well as its precise epicenter and relation to known faults in the area remained unclear.

The quake was felt sharply in the local area, The Associated Press reported, and also rolled through downtown Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County.

Some Twitter users reported that they slept through the quake, while other reported being startled awake.

Kristen Nicole (@KristenNicole25) tweeted: “Apparently there was an #earthquake in #SoCal this morning. People said they felt it in #LA… Not this girl.”

Twitter user Anayeli (@iamanayeli) reported the quake woke her up in Riverside. ”At least I won’t be late for class!,” she wrote.

Terry Raposa said on her Facebook account that she felt the quake in Lake Elsinore.

“Slam and then felt sea sick! LOL!,” she wrote, NBCLosAngeles.com reported.

‘Seal Cam’ horror show as women are filmed cruelly kicking and abusing pregnant harbor seals at night in San Diego

The attackers were recorded by a special ‘Seal Cam,’ which was set up in the La Jolla Cove area in January to monitor the seal colony and help protect pregnant seals and their pups from potential harassment.

Footage shows one women sitting on the seals, pulling their flippers and kicking them, while another woman films her and takes photographs causing a flashing light to go off in the animal’s faces.

Clearly disturbed, one by one the animals return to sea to avoid the abuse.

The women’s behavior has been branded a ‘horror show’ by the local seal activist who initially proposing the high-def technology which includes infrared capability to monitor the seals at night.

‘Knowing that they’re pregnant and chasing them into water and doing gestures and sitting on them,’ Dr. Jane Reldan told Fox5 San Diego, ‘I think it’s a horror show.’

 

While the women aren’t breaking any law by being on the beach, they are supposed to stay behind a rope intended to mark out an area saved for the animals.

Even before the installation of the surveillance camera at the La Jolla Children’s Pool in January, there was been a growing controversy for many years regarding if the harbor seals and human residents can happily co-exist on the beach.

Many locals are unhappy about their access to the water being restricted by a section being roped off between December and May for the seals to use during pupping season.

A group of over 100,000 dolphins spotted off the coast of San Diego caused a spectacle for nature watchers as they traveled together in an enormous pack.

Mr Dutra, who captains Hornblower Cruises, was out on his daily tour with a boat full of nature watchers when he spotted the massive group of dolphins.

He estimated that the trail of dolphins was seven miles long and five miles wide, and he was able to steer the boat alongside them for over an hour.

Experts are unable to pinpoint any specific reason as to why so many of the mammals were traveling together on this particular night.

‘They’re definitely social animals, they stick together in small groups. But sometimes, the schools come together,’ marine expert Sarah Wilkin told NBC.

While it does seem like a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a very similar flock o
f thousands of dolphins were seen swimming together about this time last year.

At the end of February in 2012, an unspecified group of dolphins was spotted swimming about 65 miles north of San Diego, implying that there may be an unacknowledged migratory pattern.

VISTA (CBS 8) – They look like small helicopters with onboard cameras. Surveillance drones are taking off in San Diego County, literally.

Police agencies, small businesses, even your own neighbor could soon be flying an “eye in the sky.”

News 8′s Phil Blauer participated in a demonstration of the $100,000 “Scout” surveillance drone, manufactured by Datron in Vista.

“This unit literally flies itself. It just waits for us to tell it what to do,” said Paul Wilson, Field Support Specialist with Datron.

“I can pull this thing out of a backpack and have that video come directly to me, so I know what’s going on,” said Chris Barter, Datron Program Manager. “The real value is it streams video to a computer.”

Datron managers frequently give demonstrations of the Scout for the media, the military, and police agencies nationwide.

“We’re shooting to get the system into law enforcement and educate the public about how these systems are ultimately of benefit,” said Barter.

The video streamed back from the Scout can be recorded on the computer and monitored live. The drone can also snap still photos from above.  It can fly for about a half hour on a single battery.

Police departments across the country have purchased surveillance drones for use in swat standoffs, drug busts, or search and rescue operations.

In 2011, Datron conducted a drone demo for the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, but the department never purchased one, according to Commander David Myers.

The department reviewed several other drones last year on display at the International Association of Chiefs of Police convention in Mission Valley, Myers said.

“I’ve seen them from $50,000 all the way up to $300,000,” said Myers. “It all depends on what you want and what the capabilities are.”

Myers said he is not aware of any local law enforcement agency currently using a surveillance drone, including the Sheriff’s department.

Commercial photography businesses also are using drones in San Diego County.

“About two months ago there was a train derailment in Kentucky. The Scout was used in the air to take photography of the train collision,” said Barter, the Datron manager.

Most people are familiar with military use of drones in war zones but the technology is evolving and getting cheaper.

For about $300, anybody can go online and buy a personal drone with streaming, high-definition video capabilities.

“I live in Encinitas and I’ve gone surfing and actually seen these things up in the air. At that point though, those are just hobby-class birds,” said Barter.

Current Federal Aviation Administration rules restrict the flights of surveillance drones to line of sight and 400 feet in altitude.

The Scout is one of several drones being reviewed in Oklahoma by the Department of Homeland Security for surveillance capabilities, which is causing privacy concerns.

“We certainly can’t accept law enforcement secretly acquiring drones for surveillance purposes,” said Kevin Keenan, Executive Director of the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties.

“This is a public issue. It deserves to be debated,” said Keenan. “I think local law enforcement understands that people are a little freaked out by the idea of our sky being populated by these surveillance drones.”

The ACLU wants to make sure police agencies are restricted from using drones for routine surveillance on civilians.

“They can stay up there for a long time. You can’t even hear them. So it’s a potential for complete and total surveillance that we just haven’t confronted as a society,” Keenan said.

Datron managers said their Scout drone is no more invasive than a helicopter.

“Unmanned aircraft are no different than manned aircraft. They have to operate within the same legal framework as all aircraft platforms,” said Barter. “You can’t go off and do things that are illegal.”

In response to public records requests, the Federal Aviation Administration last year released a list of agencies nationwide with FAA permits to fly drones. No law enforcement agencies in San Diego County were on the list.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Sunday announced a $1-million reward for information leading to the arrest and capture of fugitive ex-cop Christopher Jordan Dorner, who is suspected of killing three people and wounding two others.

“We will not tolerate anyone undermining the security of this community,” Villaraigosa said at a news conference at LAPD headquarters downtown. “We will not tolerate this reign of terror.”

Police Chief Charlie Beck said the reward was “the largest local reward ever offered to our knowledge.” The reason for such a significant reward, Beck said, was “not about capturing a fleeing suspect, but about preventing another crime, likely another murder.”

TIMELINE: Manhunt for ex-LAPD officer

“This is an act of domestic terrorism,” Beck said of those killed and allegedly targeted by Dorner. “He has targeted those we entrust to protect the public.”

A massive manhunt for Dorner began last week after the 33-year-old former Los Angeles police officer and Navy veteran allegedly began a deadly campaign that has left an Irvine couple and a Riverside police officer dead. Dorner is believed to be upset over his firing from the department in 2009.

The city of Los Angeles, law enforcement organizations, private groups and anonymous donors have all contributed to the reward fund, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.

Mexican authorities were ready to shoot to kill if they saw Christopher Dorner cross the border. On the U.S. side, tens of thousands of local, state and federal authorities scrambled following a flood of calls from people believing they had spotted the man, who was fired from the LAPD in 2008 and vowed “warfare to those in LAPD uniform” in a rambling online manifesto.

Authorities believe he shot to death the daughter of a former LAPD captain and her fiance Sunday in an Irvine parking garage, grazed a Los Angeles policeman during a confrontation Thursday morning in Corona and shot two Riverside police officers in an ambush a short time later, killing one.

The Navy shut down its Point Loma base in San Diego after an active-duty service member at about 9:30 a.m. reported seeing someone matching Dorner’s description on base. Military officials said Dorner had indeed checked into a hotel on base Tuesday but left the next day.

Navy spokesman Cmdr. Brian Fagan said the 33-year-old former Navy lieutenant left the reserves with an honorable discharge Friday, and likely used his military ID to get on base. The Navy lifted the lockdown about midday after dozens of police officers swarmed the base and failed to find him.

Signs of his trail sent authorities scrambling throughout the day from state to state and city to city. In Los Angeles, officers mistakenly wounded two women in suburban Torrance who were in a pickup in the predawn darkness Thursday. One woman was in stable condition with two gunshot wounds and the other was being released after being treated.

Minutes later, Torrance officers responding to a report of gunshots encountered another dark pickup matching the description of Dorner’s, said Torrance Sgt. Chris Roosen. A collision occurred and the officers fired on the pickup.

The unidentified driver was not hit and police later realized they had made a mistake, Roosen said. “We’re asking our officers to be extraordinarily cautious just as we’re asking the public to be extraordinarily cautious with this guy. He’s already demonstrated he has a propensity for shooting innocent people,” said Andrew Smith, the LAPD commander.

Dorner is wanted in the killings of Monica Quan, and her fiance, Keith Lawrence. They were found shot in their car at a parking structure at their condominium Sunday night in Irvine, authorities said.

Quan, 28, was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton. Lawrence, 27, was a public safety officer at the University of Southern California. There was disbelief at three college campuses, Fullerton, USC, and Concordia University, where the two met when they were both students and basketball players.

On Thursday morning, Dorner’s wallet and photo ID and a law enforcement badge were found on a street near San Diego International Airport. Dorner was believed to be heavily armed and wearing military-style fatigues and body armor.

Mexican authorities closely watched San Diego’s border with Tijuana and were prepared to shoot him in a confrontation, said Alfredo Arenas, international liaison for the Baja California state police. The FBI and U.S. marshals provided constant updates.

“We’re keeping tabs with them every five minutes to see if he comes to Tijuana,” Arenas said. “If push comes to shove, they advised us to shoot to the head.” Arenas said the Mexican navy was also watching out.

Dorner is suspected of tying up an 81-year-old man and trying to steal his boat at the Southwestern Yacht Club in San Diego on Wednesday night. He fled when he couldn’t start the engine. The yacht club is about five miles from where Dorner’s wallet was found, San Diego police said.

On Monday morning, authorities found Dorner’s police equipment in a dumpster in the San Diego suburb of National City.

I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders and have taken drastic and shocking actions in the last couple of days. You are saying to yourself that this is completely out of character of the man you knew who always wore a smile wherever he was seen. I know I will be villified by the LAPD and the media.

Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name. The department has not changed since the Rampart and Rodney King days. It has gotten worse. The consent decree should never have been lifted. The only thing that has evolved from the consent decree is those officers involved in the Rampart scandal and Rodney King incidents have since promoted to supervisor, commanders, and command staff, and executive positions.

It’s your life, your legacy, your journey, sacrifices, and everything you’ve worked hard for every day of your life as and adolescent, young adult and adult. Don’t let anybody tarnish it when you know you’ve live up to your own set of ethics and personal ethos.
 

In 8/07 I reported an officer (Ofcr. Teresa Evans/now a Sergeant), for kicking a suspect (excessive force) during a Use of Force while I was assigned as a patrol officer at LAPD’s Harbor Division. While cuffing the suspect, (Christopher Gettler), Evans kicked the suspect twice in the chest and once in the face. The kick to the face left a visible injury on the left cheek below the eye. Unfortunately after reporting it to supervisors and investigated by PSB (internal affairs investigator Det. Villanueva/Gallegos), nothing was done. I had broken their supposed “Blue Line”.

Unfortunately, It’s not JUST US, it’s JUSTICE!!! In fact, 10 months later on 6/25/08, after already successfully completing probation, acquiring a basic Post Certificate, and Intermediate Post Certificate, I was relieved of duty by the LAPD while assigned to patrol at Southwest division. It is clear as day that the department retaliated toward me for reporting Evans for kicking Mr. Christopher Gettler. The department stated that I had lied and made up the report that Evans had kicked the suspect…..

Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), owner of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, has been sued by eight US sailors over radiation exposure.

They claim that Tepco lied about the threat posed by the leaks after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami damaged the plant.

The sailors were involved in relief operations after the natural disasters.

They have each sought $10m (£6m) in compensatory damages and $30m in punitive damages from Tepco.

The eight, who have filed the case in a US Federal Court in San Diego, also want Tepco to set up a $100m fund to pay for their medical expenses.

They have claimed that the utility provider created an impression that the level of radiation leaks from the nuclear plant did not pose any threat.

Feds want more data on possible tube wear at ailing California nuclear power plant

LOS ANGELES — Federal regulators Wednesday pressed the operator of the San Onofre nuclear power plant for more analysis on its damaged steam generators, as the government considers when, or if, one of the seaside reactors can be restarted safely.

San Onofre, located between Los Angeles and San Diego, hasn’t produced electricity since January, after a tiny radiation leak led to the discovery of excessive wear on hundreds of generator tubes that carry radioactive water.

Southern California Edison asked the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in early October for permission to rekindle one of the twin reactors, Unit 2, and then run it at reduced power. Company officials believe that operating at up to 70 percent power will end vibration and friction that prematurely eroded generator tubing.

In a letter to Edison, NRC officials raised a potentially thorny question for the company.

Under technical operating rules, the plant is required to ensure that generator tubes retain “structural integrity” during “the full range of normal operating conditions,” including if the plant is running at full power. NRC said it wanted the company to demonstrate that Unit 2 could meet that threshold, or explain how generator tubes would interact with each other if the plant is operating at maximum capacity.

Any change in those technical rules could trigger a longer, more complex review by the NRC. Agency spokesman Victor Dricks declined comment when asked if meeting the full-power threshold could be a condition of restarting the Unit 2 reactor.

Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Type 1 Diabetes

A study led by researchers from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine has found a correlation between vitamin D3 serum levels and subsequent incidence of Type 1 diabetes. The six-year study of blood levels of nearly 2,000 individuals suggests a preventive role for vitamin D3 in this disease. The research appears the December issue of Diabetologia, a publication of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).

 

“Previous studies proposed the existence of an association between vitamin D deficiency and risk of and Type 1 diabetes, but this is the first time that the theory has been tested in a way that provides the dose-response relationship,” said Cedric Garland, DrPH, FACE, professor in UCSD’s Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.

This study used samples from millions of blood serum specimens frozen by the Department of Defense Serum Registry for disease surveillance. The researchers thawed and analyzed 1000 samples of serum from healthy people who later developed type 1 diabetes and 1000 healthy controls whose blood was drawn on or near the same date but who did not develop type 1 diabetes. By comparing the serum concentrations of the predominant circulating form of vitamin D — 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) — investigators were able to determine the optimal serum level needed to lower an individual’s risk of developing type 1 diabetes.

Based mainly on results of this study, Garland estimates that the level of 25(OH)D needed to prevent half the cases of type 1 diabetes is 50 ng/ml. A consensus of all available data indicates no known risk associated with this dosage.

“While there are a few conditions that influence vitamin D metabolism, for most people, 4000 IU per day of vitamin D3 will be needed to achieve the effective levels,” Garland suggested. He urges interested patients to ask their health care provider to measure their serum 25(OH)D before increasing vitamin D3 intake.

“This beneficial effect is present at these intakes only for vitamin D3,” cautioned Garland. “Reliance should not be placed on different forms of vitamin D and mega doses should be avoided, as most of the benefits for prevention of disease are for doses less than 10,000 IU/day.”

Garland’s co-authors from UC San Diego School of Medicine and the Naval Health Research Center include Edward Gorham, PhD; Sharif Mohr, PhD; and Heather Hofflich, DO; Alina Burgi and Kenneth Zeng of the Naval Health Research Center, and Camillo Ricordi MD, of the University of Miami Diabetes Research Institute.

The study was supported by a Congressional allocation to the Diabetes Research Institute of the University of Miami through the Naval Health Research Center, San Diego, California.
