Is British CNN host Piers Morgan finally admitting gun advocates have a point when they say the Second Amendment is to protect citizens from tyrannical government?

Morgan has made headlines for many months as he loudly trumpeted the cause of gun control, even to the detriment of his shows ratings.

Since the Sandy Hook massacre last year – in which Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 students and six adults at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. – Morgan has made advocating for gun-control legislation a frequent topic of his program, clashing with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich or rocker and National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent, for example, and calling Gun Owners of America’s Larry Pratt “an unbelievably stupid man” for disagreeing with him.

Following reports of his vitriolic attacks, a petition was started on the White House “We the People” website demanding Morgan be deported back to England – and it now has more than 109,000 signatures.

As WND reported, despite his avid criticism of guns, Morgan protects his own personal property with signs warning that it is guarded by “Armed Response Security Systems,” according to a recent investigation by self-described “guerrilla journalist” James O’Keefe.

And on March 11, Morgan insisted that, “people need the nanny state occasionally.”

Now – after learning of the Obama administration’s involvement in the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups and its secret seizure of Associated Press phone records – the CNN host admitted to guest Penn Jillette that perhaps gun advocates were right about creeping tyranny after all:

Blast registered on seismographs as earthquake

UPDATED 8:12 PM CDT May 16, 2013
West Texas explosion crater
REUTERS/Adrees Latif

(CNN) —Investigators have not ruled out an intentional fire being behind explosions at a fertilizer plant in the small town of West that left 15 people dead, the Texas fire marshal said Thursday.

State Fire Marshal Chris Connealy said investigators were unable to rule out three possible causes, including a spark from a golf cart, an electrical short or an intentionally set fire.

“The cause cannot be proven to an acceptable level,” Connealy told reporters.

Investigators said the incident was actually two simultaneous blasts triggered by the fire. The blasts, which registered on seismographs as a magnitude 2.1 earthquake and was felt 50 miles away, caused damage to a 37-block area of the town.

The announcement follows news last week that authorities launched a criminal investigation into the April 17 fire and explosion in West, about 70 miles southwest of Dallas.

West, Texas Blast Was Caused By an Arsonist, Electrical Short or Golf Cart, Officials Say

State Fire Marshal Chris Connealy at this afternoon’s press conference.

The Morning News broke the news this morning that officials had narrowed the cause of last month’s deadly West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion to one of three things: a golf cart, an electrical short, or criminal activity. That wasn’t terribly narrow, but there was a press conference scheduled this afternoon, so we thought investigators might be more specific.

They didn’t.

“The cause of this fire is undetermined,” State Fire Marshal Chris Connealy told reporters, explaining that fire investigators make that ruling when a “cause cannot be proven to an acceptable level of certainty because of insufficient information or when multiple causes can’t be eliminated.”

Several causes have been ruled out. The fire wasn’t caused by a rekindle as had been speculated, because there was no earlier fire. It also wasn’t spontaneous, nor was it caused by the 480-volt electrical system.

That leaves the complex’s 120-volt electrical system, a golf cart, or arson.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms pointedly declined to speculate on the latter or the potential role of former EMT Bryce Reed, charged with possessing a pipe bomb, saying the criminal investigation is ongoing.

Cleveland Reporter: ” R.I.P. Is Scrawled On The Wall In The Basement” Amanda Berry Kidnapping

Les Grossman

Published on May 7, 2013

“Piers Morgan Live” invited Kevin Freeman to share his intimate knowledge of a story that’s equal parts joyous and saddening.

As three women — Amanda Berry, Georgina “Gina” DeJesus, and Michelle Knight — begin the challenging process of reintegrating into society following nearly a decade in captivity, the man who’s covered the story for Cleveland’s Fox 8 revealed a detail he’d picked up through his sources:

“The letters R.I.P. — Rest in Peace — are scrawled on the wall in the basement and there’s a woman’s name which would lead you to believe that another woman was in there at some time,” Freeman told Piers Morgan. “They also say that one of the girls told investigators that that woman was with them for a while and then one day, she woke up and the girl was no longer there.”

After interviewing Freeman, the host then spoke live with a mother and her daughters. Anita Lugo, Faliceonna Lopez, and Nina Samoylicz all live in the neighborhood where the three Castro brothers are said to have held the women captive and on Tuesday evening Faliceonna revealed details of the day in she believes she saw one of the abducted women:

Neighbors Saw Naked Girls Chained on Leashes. Amanda Berry Kidnapping

Les Grossman

Published on May 7, 2013

Three women who disappeared in Cleveland a decade ago were found safe Monday, and police arrested three brothers accused of holding the victims against their will. A timeline of key events in the case:

_ Aug. 23, 2002: Michelle Knight, 20, vanishes. She was last seen at a cousin’s house near Lorain Avenue and West 106th Street.

_ April 21, 2003: Amanda Berry, 16, disappears after leaving her job at a Burger King at the corner of Lorain Avenue and West 110th Street, a few blocks from her home.

_ January 2004: Police go to Ariel Castro’s home at 2207 Seymour Ave., about 3 miles from where Knight and Berry were last seen. No one answers the door. Child welfare officials had alerted police that Castro, a school bus driver, apparently left a child unattended on a bus. Police later spoke to Castro and determined there was no criminal intent.

_ April 2, 2004: Georgina “Gina” DeJesus, 14, disappears while walking home from school. She was last seen at a telephone booth at the corner of Lorain Avenue and 105th Street.

_ November 2004: Psychic Sylvia Browne tells Berry’s mother, Louwana Miller, on “The Montel Williams Show” that her daughter is dead.

_ March 2, 2006: Miller, 43, dies after being hospitalized with pancreatitis and other ailments. She had spent the previous three years looking for her daughter.

_ November 2011: A neighbor, Israel Lugo, said he heard pounding on some of the doors of Castro’s house, which had plastic bags on the windows. Lugo said officers knocked on the front door, but no one answered. Officers walked around outside the house and left, Lugo said.

_ April 2, 2013: Family and friends of DeJesus gather for a vigil on the corner where she was last seen on the ninth anniversary of her disappearance.

_ May 6, 2013: Knight, Berry, DeJesus and a 6-year-old girl believed to be Berry’s daughter are found at Castro’s home. Police arrest three brothers, Ariel Castro, Pedro Castro and Onil Castro, in connection with the women’s disappearances.

3 long-missing women freed in Cleveland: Latest developments

Three separate cases, one rescue

(CNN) — Three long-missing women — Amanda Berry, 27; Georgina “Gina” DeJesus, 23; and Michelle Knight, 32 — and a 6-year-old daughter apparently born to Berry in captivity were found alive Monday in Cleveland, police said. The women are believed to have been abducted years ago — in 2002, 2003 and 2004 — and held captive at a man’s home, according to police.

Three suspects, all brothers, including the home’s main resident, Ariel Castro, 52, were arrested. On Wednesday, a prosecutor said that Castro is being charged with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape. His brothers are not being charged in the case.

Here are recent developments:

New developments:

– Angel Cordero, who helped rescue Amanda Berry and her daughter, said he told her they had to leave quickly before the suspect returned home. “I said, ‘Let’s get out of here, because if that guy arrives he’s going to kill us. If he finds me here, he is going to kill me. He’ll kill you.” Cordero also told CNN en Español that Berry’s daughter did not appear accustomed to being around many people. She was wearing only a diaper and a sullied shirt, the rescuer said.

Previously reported developments:

Amanda Berry’s sister asks for privacy

– The three women and the child were rescued Monday after, according to a neighbor, screaming was heard coming from the home.

– Charles Ramsey and Cordero say they responded to the screaming by helping to kick in the door to help her escape.

Smart’s advice for 3 women found

Ramsey and Berry called 911, authorities said. “Help me, I am Amanda Berry,” she begged the operator. “I’ve been kidnapped, and I’ve been missing for 10 years. And I’m here, I’m free now.”

– Authorities are discussing who might receive a reward for information that led to the three long-missing women, said Cleveland police Deputy Chief Ed Tomba. He singled out Charles Ramsey, Castro’s neighbor who helped free Amanda Berry and later called police. “Mr. Ramsey deserves something,” said Tomba. “He is the true key to the case.”

– While Amanda Berry was on another line, a 911 dispatcher calmly, briefly related to police officers her account of having been held captive for a decade, according to a recording of the call. One police officer responded moments later that they were on the road where Berry was and would be there soon.

– In addition to Berry, police found DeJesus and Knight at the home; all three said they were held captive there, according to authorities.

– Police later arrested Ariel Castro, who’s identified as a former school bus driver, and his two brothers. All three Castro brothers were together when they were arrested, at which time authorities felt “we had enough probable cause to bring them into custody,” said Tomba. But over the course of the investigation, officials “found no facts to link” Onil and Pedro Castro to the kidnapping case.

– Onil and Pedro Castro are set to appear Thursday morning in Cleveland Municipal Court related to outstanding warrants out on both men for misdemeanor cases, Victor Perez, chief assistant prosecutor for the city of Cleveland, said late Wednesday afternoon.. Tomba said that the judge will then determine whether the two men get credit for time served and are released.

– Ariel Castro faces charges on four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape, said Perez.

He will be arraigned Thursday morning on the seven charges — each of them first-degree felonies — in Cleveland Municipal Court, then his case will be transferred to a Cuyahoga County court. The prosecutor’s office for that county will handle the case, with a grand jury deciding on an indictment that could include additional counts, according to Perez.

– In charging documents for Ariel Castro released Wednesday, police said that Castro lured Knight into his vehicle on Lorain Avenue on August 22, 2002, took her to his home, and over the subsequent years “repeatedly sexually assaulted” her. Police laid out the same scenario for Berry, who was allegedly lured into Castro’s vehicle on the same road on April 21, 2003. DeJesus was allegedly lured into Castro’s vehicle on April 2, 2004, and, like the other two women, sexually assaulted repeatedly in the subsequent years.

– Ariel Castro has been talking with investigators since his arrest, said Tomba. “We don’t see or anticipate any other victims of his.”

– Knight, of Cleveland, had been last seen on August 22, 2002, and was reported missing by a family member the next day, said Martin Flask, Cleveland’s public safety director. She was 21 at the time, according Cleveland police.

– Berry was last seen after finishing her shift at a Burger King in Cleveland in 2003. It was the eve of her 17th birthday.

– DeJesus, of Cleveland, disappeared nearly a year later, in April 2004. She was 14.

– The three women hadn’t left Ariel Castro’s property and had only gone outside “on two separate occasions … briefly” in the years in which they were held captive, said Flask.

– The man who allegedly held the young women captive would often test them by pretending to leave, then returning suddenly to discipline them if they made any move to escape, the same source told CNN. Amanda Berry — the 27-year-old captive who pushed to get free Monday — “just knew” that (suspect Ariel) Castro was gone at the time and “had hit her breaking point,” according to the source.

– The women “relied on each other for survival,” a law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the investigation said. The three interacted during their captivity, though they were typically kept in separate rooms, according to the source.

– A paternity test will be conducted to determine whether Ariel Castro is the biological father of the 6-year-old daughter of Berry who was freed Monday, said Tomba. The girl was born while her mother was held captive.

– When Berry escaped, the two other young women also being held in the house could have run but chose not to, the law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the investigation said. The two other women who did not flee had “succumbed” to “their reality,” the source said, describing them as brainwashed and fearful.

– None of the three women was bound on the day they were freed, according to the source. Earlier, Cleveland’s police chief told NBC’s “Today” show that “we have confirmation that they were bound, and there (were) chains and ropes in the home.”

– The freed women are “safe and healthy,” Perez said late Wednesday afternoon.

– Michelle Knight’s missing persons report from the Cleveland Police Department describes her as having “mental abnormalities”; many family members seemed to be unaware that she was missing.

– The mother of Michelle Knight told NBC on Wednesday that she cried when she heard her daughter was found. Barbara Knight told NBC that she had been looking for her daughter during the years she was gone. “She’s probably angry at the world because she thought she would never be found but thank God that somebody did.” She was asked what she would say to Michelle if and when she got to see her. “I love you and I missed you all this time,” she said.

– Michelle Knight was at Cleveland’s Metro Health Medical Center on Wednesday morning, hospital spokeswoman Tina Shaerban-Arundel said. The spokeswoman did not say what Knight was being treated for, but did say that Knight “is in good condition.” On Tuesday, the hospital said that it had released all three rescued women. Shaerban-Arundel said Wednesday that the hospital stood by its Tuesday statement, but she did not elaborate.

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com (See all articles…)

(NaturalNews) Most people feel that a time of great change is upon us. But what kind of change is unfolding, exactly?

To answer that question, we must examine current trends and attempt to understand where they are headed.

Here’s my look at ten of the most sociologically-charged trends that I believe are leading us into a spiritual crisis (followed by a spiritual awakening, as you’ll see below).

#1) The rise of human engineered genetics

Abandoning the seeds of nature, human scientists continue to play God with plants, animals and even humans. In doing so, they challenge the laws of nature and have already given rise to “superbugs” and “superweeds.”

Superbugs are resistant to all known chemicals and drugs, and superweeds are resistant to all known chemical herbicides. Genetic pollution is rampant. No one knows where this takes us, but many understand that such reckless science puts the future of life at risk across our entire planet.

#2) Reality escapism via gaming, social networks and computer-human interface devices such as Google Glass, VR helmets

Turning to techno-immersion devices, more and more people are escaping reality and “living” in virtual worlds, or living in “augmented” versions of the real world. Though such devices and social networks promise connection, they actually deliver isolation, social detachment and depression.

As these devices become more capable of sensory immersion, the problems they foment will only become more extreme, leading to extreme isolationism, escapism and truly delusional life experiences. People will live and die in “the Matrix,” so to speak.

On the up side, immersion devices have tremendous therapeutic value and training value. They could theoretically be used to teach the fundamentals of liberty, consciousness, economics and philosophy, but history has shown they will most likely be exploited by corporate interests and abused by users to escape reality rather than enhance it. (Just look at where television ended up taking us…)

#3) The demonization of normalcy

Any idea that used to be considered “normal” is being increasingly demonized. For example, understanding mathematics and the laws of economics now makes you a “fringe whacko” in any discussion about the national debt or budget deficits.

Expressing the existence of human consciousness will earn you a sharp rebuke from conformists who insist there is no such thing as consciousness. This group already includes many the world’s top physicists such as Stephen Hawking.

Ideas like “we should be responsible for our own actions” are becoming increasingly alien across society. Even a heterosexual lifestyle is now being thought of as “abnormal” by the new metro-sexual trendies. Everything normal and natural is being marginalized and replaced with radical, anti-consciousness ideas such as “it’s okay to murder babies right after they are born, just call it a post-birth abortion.”

Normalcy is the new “closet.” If you are normal, hide it away, lest you be incessantly berated by your peers for not conforming to their “new wave” of freakish ideas.

#4) The rise of “omission journalism”

Journalism is increasingly becoming more about what is omitted from the news rather than what’s in it. As mainstream media institutions pursue agendas of social shaping rather than reporting factual news, they use the power of omission to make sure the people aren’t aware of the most socially-relevant stories.

For example, in our modern time there are two huge stories the media isn’t reporting because it’s practicing “omission journalism.” Those stories are the abortion murder trials and DHS bullet stockpiling.

When watching the news, an informed observer must now ask himself, “What are they NOT showing me?” Therein lie the real stories that will never be reported.

#5) The “Idiocracy” effect of self-selected procreation that multiplies the number of people least qualified to advance humanity

I call this the “Idiocracy” effect, named after the movie of the same name (by Mike Judge). It simply means that humans who are least qualified to advance humanity are the most likely to have the most offspring.

Put simply, smart people have fewer babies, but the idiots procreate in massive numbers. This ultimately skews the demographic profile into a society filled with people of very low cognitive function who nevertheless represent the voting majority. From there, the downfall of society and the rise of the idiocracy is only a matter of time.

In a hundred years, this article you are reading right now will be incomprehensible to even high-level scholars of the future because it uses big words like “demographic” and “cognitive.” Anyone who can do basic algebra will be considered a genius.

#6) The censorship and criminalization of knowledge

Today, publishing truthful knowledge about nutritional supplements, colloidal silver or natural medicine is considered a criminal activity. Any coherent physics analysis of WTC building 7 is also met with sheer derision.

One of the trademarks of the insane society into which we have already entered is the censorship and criminalization of knowledge. Any who speak the truth, who attempt to preserve knowledge, or who counter lies with truth are immediately branded whackos, conspiracy theorists or terrorists.

The purpose of this ploy is to eliminate all knowledge from society’s memory so that reality can be instantly reshaped at will by the governing tyrants. A population which has no connection with actual history, knowledge of natural medicine or even awareness of their natural rights is far easier to control than a well-educated population with a sense of factual context.

#7) Selective dehumanization: The abandonment of any value for the life of a newborn child or any adult who disagrees with you

Dehumanization is a key trend to watch. You see it right now with the idea that sufficiently young children have no “life” and no value and can be terminated as a “choice.” You also see it with the increasingly radical rhetoric in the mainstream media, where guests on CNN and other broadcasts call for the violent shooting of anyone who disagrees with them.

These are signs of dehumanization, and they will be extended and multiplied until all those who disagree with the governing status quo are labeled “animals” and dealt with accordingly.

  • Source: Feds probe possible link to slain Canadian jihadist
  • Death-penalty expert appointed to represent Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
  • Federal agents interview “Misha” in Rhode Island

Read a version of this story in Arabic.

(CNN) — Federal agents are looking into possible links between dead Boston Marathon bomb suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev and a Canadian boxer-turned-jihadist killed by Russian troops in 2012, a source being briefed on the investigation said Monday.

William Plotnikov and six others died in a firefight with Russian forces in the southwestern republic of Dagestan in July 2012, while Tsarnaev was visiting the region, the source said. The 23-year-old Plotnikov had been born in Russia, but his family moved to Canada when he was a teenager.

The source said Plotnikov’s body was prepared for burial by a local imam on July 14. Tamerlan Tsarnaev flew out of Dagestan two days later, arriving in New York on July 17. Investigators are looking into the possibility he left because of Plotnikov’s death, the source said.

Additionally, the source says investigators are looking into whether Tsarnaev had any contact with another militant named Mahmoud Mansur Nidal, 18, who was killed by Russian forces in May 2012 during a gun battle in Makhachkala, Dagestan’s capital.

Tsarnaev’s parents live in Makhachkala. Possible links between Tsarnaev and Plotnikov and Nidal were first reported by a Russian magazine, Novaya Gazeta.

And the source said that about a month before he returned to the United States, Tamerlan Tsarnaev applied for a Russian passport at a government office in Dagestan, telling authorities he had lost his existing passport. According to the source, Tsarnaev left Dagestan before his new passport arrived. It’s not clear whether he traveled on an existing Russian or Kyrgyz passport.

That report emerged the same day a U.S. government official told CNN that FBI agents have interviewed the man identified as “Misha,” an elusive figure whose name has surfaced in the Boston bombing investigation.

Investigators spoke with the man in Rhode Island after reports surfaced suggesting that members of the suspected bombers’ family blame a “Misha” for radicalizing Tsarnaev, whose wounded brother has identified him as the mastermind of the April 15 bombing.

The man, whose real name is Mikhail Allakhverdov, denies ever encouraging a violent take on Islam and says he was not Tamerlan’s teacher, according to a New York Review of Books writer who says he interviewed Misha.

“He began telling me he cooperated with the FBI” and had handed over his computer and cell phone, reporter Christian Caryl told CNN on Monday.

Allakhverdov insisted he had “nothing to do with radicalization,” Caryl said.

CNN has made repeated efforts to speak with Allakhverdov, but has so far been unsuccessful.

A lawyer who stepped out of the West Warwick, Rhode Island, apartment listed for Mikhail Allakhverdov told CNN he represents the parents of someone who lives there, adding, “We call him Michael.”

The parents have answered all questions the authorities have asked of them, attorney Richard Nicholson said.

The parents are nervous because of the media focus on them, he said, adding that the mother has a heart condition.

Misha’s family ‘friendly and welcoming’

Caryl said that when he showed up at Misha’s home, he took the family by surprise but managed to spend some time with him.

“I wasn’t his teacher. If I had been his teacher, I would have made sure he never did anything like this,” Allakhverdov said, according to Caryl’s report.

“A thirty-nine-year-old man of Armenian-Ukrainian descent, Allakhverdov is of medium height and has a thin, reddish-blond beard,” Caryl wrote. “When I arrived he was wearing a green and white short-sleeve football jersey and pajama pants. Along with his parents, his American girlfriend was there, and we sat together in a tiny living room that abuts the family kitchen.”

He added, “In many ways, Allakhverdov’s parents seem typical former-Soviet émigrés who had embraced middle class life in the United States. His father is an Armenian Christian and his mother is an ethnic Ukrainian.”

In the article, Allakhverdov’s father is quoted as saying, “We love this country. We never expected anything like this to happen to us.”

Ruslan Tsarni, Tamerlan’s uncle, told CNN last week that a friend of his nephew “just took his brain. He just brainwashed him completely.”

After The Associated Press said members of Tsarnaev’s family identified the friend as Misha, Tsarnaev’s former brother-in-law told CNN that Tsarnaev had a friend by that name. Elmirza Khozhgov said the friend apparently “had influence on Tamerlan.” But Khozhgov said he did not see Misha try to radicalize Tsarnaev.

Death-penalty expert to defend bomb suspect

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died after a shootout with police. His younger brother, Dzhokhar, 19, sustained gunshot wounds and is being held at a prison medical facility west of Boston. He has been charged with using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death, as well as one count of malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.

On Monday, a federal judge appointed prominent defense lawyer Judy Clarke to represent the wounded suspect, who could be sentenced to death if convicted.

Legal colleagues consider Clarke to be the nation’s foremost expert on defending federal capital cases. She has represented numerous high-profile clients facing Death Row, including Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber; Eric Rudolph, who admitted to the 1996 Atlanta Olympic bombing and other attacks; and Jared Lee Loughner, who pleaded guilty to killing six people and wounding 13, including then-U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in a Tucson, Arizona, shooting spree. All of them are serving life in prison.

  • NEW: Areas north of St. Louis should see water slowly recede
  • NEW: Some rivers closed to public because of debris, fast currents
  • Fargo, North Dakota, is preparing for flooding
  • The rain and flooding have caused four deaths, local authorities say

(CNN) — It appears the people on the banks of at least one major river in the Midwest are finally getting a break from rising water.

Water levels have peaked north of St. Louis, but the floodwaters from the upper Mississippi River will be slow to recede in the coming days, CNN weather producer Taylor Ward said.

And forecasters think the weather north of St. Louis in the next few days should be mostly calm.

But rain is expected on Friday and Saturday from St. Louis into Mississippi, Ward said.

The peak waters will continue to head south in the coming days but are not expected to be significant south of Missouri. The expected rainfall late this week shouldn’t have much of an impact on the anticipated crests of rivers.

The residents of Grafton, Illinois, north of St. Louis, will see the worst of the floodwater through Friday as the Mississippi River peaks at more than 11 feet above flood stage, the National Weather Service says.

Many along the river’s edge decided to evacuate, but Jerry Eller thought he would wait it out.

“I’ve got water coming up through cracks in the floor, so I have about 3,000 gallons an hour of pumps running down the basement keeping water out, and that seems to be keeping it down to about an inch,” Eller told CNN affiliate KPLR.

Floodwater has ravaged dozens of counties in Illinois, forcing thousands of residents from their homes.

On Wednesday, the Missouri and Illinois rivers and parts of the Mississippi River were closed to recreational boats due to debris and fast currents, the Coast Guard said.

The statement said conditions had already caused 200-foot long barges to break away from their moorings and sink.

The Army Corps of Engineers closed three of its locks to all river traffic until flooding subsides.

“Public safety is our first priority. Rivers are unpredictable and dangerous in a flood,” said Col. Chris Hall, commander of the Corps’ St. Louis District. “Even if someone has lived along a river his whole life, he shouldn’t assume it will behave the same way during a flood. It’s not a good time to be on or near the rivers.”

Judge may come to hospital to inform Dzhokhar Tsarnaev of charges

Sun Apr 21, 2013 9:16PM

Press TV

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, may be charged by federal prosecutors as early as Sunday, a Department of Justice official told CNN.

Because Tsarnaev is still in serious condition, a judge or magistrate would likely come to the hospital to inform him of the charges, a law enforcement source said. An arraignment would take place at a later date.

Tsarnaev, 19, is currently unable to speak and is under heavy guard.

Tsarnaev was arrested Friday morning when, after 25 minutes of negotiations with the FBI, he crawled out of the boat he was hiding in and surrendered, a law enforcement official with knowledge of how the arrest occurred told CNN.

Authorities have not said publicly what charges will be filed against him, but a Justice Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told CNN he will face federal terrorism charges and possibly state murder charges.

Although Massachusetts does not have the death penalty, prosecutors could seek capital punishment at the federal level, the Justice Department official said.

“Given the facts that I’ve seen, it would be appropriate to use the death penalty in this case and I hope they would apply it in federal court,” Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York, said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” CNN

(CNN) — FBI agents interviewed one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings two years ago, but found no connection with terror groups.

An FBI official said agents interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011 at the request of the Russian government.

“The request stated that it was based on information that he was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer, and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups,” the FBI said in a statement.

The FBI said it took a number of investigative steps to check on the request, including looking at his travel history, checking databases for derogatory information and searching for Web postings.

Agents also interviewed Tsarnaev’s family members, the FBI said, but did not detect terrorist activity.

Boston suspects: Immigrant dream to American nightmare

“The FBI did not find any terrorism activity, domestic or foreign, and those results were provided to the foreign government in the summer of 2011,” the FBI’s statement said. “The FBI requested but did not receive more specific or additional information from the foreign government.”

U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said Friday that information that Tsarnaev had been interviewed by the FBI in the past was disturbing.

“It’s new information to me and it’s very disturbing that he’s on the FBI’s radar screen,” McCaul told CNN’s Erin Burnett.

No immediate suggestion of accomplices in bombings

McCaul praised the FBI’s efforts investigating the case since Monday’s bombings.

“But if he was on the radar and they let him out of their sights, then that’s an issue, certainly, for me,” McCaul said.

The suspects’ parents told Russian state media that the FBI had been speaking with their sons.

A Toronto woman who identified herself as the Boston Marathon bombings suspects’ aunt suggested to reporters Friday afternoon that her nephews had been set up.

“All these pictures are on the computer,” Maret Tsarnaeva told reporters in a press conference that was aired by CNN.

“I have to see them. You have to have a motive first — something that would drive you to some actions. They cannot go crazy or mad or sick just for one day. As far as I know, they are fine.”

http://www.democracynow.org – CNN is coming under criticism after it falsely reported authorities had arrested a Boston Marathon bombing suspect, whom it had earlier described as a “dark-skinned male.” Both claims turned out to be wrong. Earlier in the week the New York Post claimed a Saudi man was in custody for the blasts, only to later see authorities later say the man was a victim of the marathon attack. We discuss the corporate media’s coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing with two guests: Nihad Awad, National Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations; and Peter Hart, Activism Director at the media watchdog group Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting.

BOSTON (CBS) – CBS News is reporting that a person wanted in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings has been identified.

Investigators made a “clear identification” of a suspect in the bombings with surveillance video, according to CNN, which is reporting that a suspect has been arrested.

Correspondent John King, a Boston native, said authorities have a clear video image of a “dark-skinned male” placing a bag at the second bomb site outside of the Forum restaurant on Boylston Street and then leaving the area before that explosion.

After a flurry of conflicting media reports Wednesday afternoon, federal, state and local authorities said there has been no arrest in the Boston Marathon bombings.

“Despite reports to the contrary there has not been an arrest in the Marathon attack,” Boston Police tweeted at 2:36 p.m.

“Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting,” FBI spokesperson Katherine Gulotta said in a statement.
