A cat in New Zealand has behaved in a very un-feline manner, bringing his owner a bag of marijuana and leaving it at the door. Police are now praising the furry friend for possibly helping them secure a drug bust as they dust the bag for prints.

Local police say they are very impressed with the deed.

”You hear of cats bringing dead birds and rats home, but certainly in my career I’ve never seen anything like this before,” Sergeant Reece Munro told the local Otago Daily Times. “I guess you never know who’s keeping you honest these days, do you?”

Peek-a-boo: Beautiful moment polar bear and her cub poke their heads out of their den after 8 days

  • Wildlife photographer Christine Haines captured the images after she spent eight days watching the den
  • Patience in the cold was rewarded as cub then mother peeked heads out of the hole in the Wapusk National Park
  • She said cub poked its head out of den for the first time on day seven, while they finally left the den three days later

Emerging from its den with its mother, a polar bear cub raises its head above the snow and looks out at the freezing world it calls home.

Wildlife photographer Christine Haines captured the images after she spent eight days watching the den.

Her patience in the biting cold of the Wapusk National Park in Manitoba, Canada, was rewarded when she managed to capture pictures of first a cub, then its mother peeking out of their hole.

Meet Hammie, a 1-year-old bulldog who lives in Lincoln, Neb. He’s here to tell you that he loves kittens, and there’s nothin’ you can do about it.

standingnexttoeachother

Last October, Hammie’s owner, Michelle Parden, took in a pregnant stray cat named Mommy. Parden, 34, had seen Mommy on Facebook after her friend, Gayla Hausman, posted a picture of the orange cat online. Hausman is the director at Voice for Companion Animals, a nonprofit that provides resources like pet food for low income individuals, Parden told The Huffington Post.

Parden happily took Mommy in, and on Halloween, the cat gave birth to six kittens — Pumpkin, Goblin, Frankenstein, Batman, Zombie and Elvira. Because Mommy was so skinny and had eye and respiratory infections, some of the births had complications. But Parden told HuffPost all six kittens and Mommy are now healthy.

Parden has since found adoptive families for all of the kittens and Mommy. Hammie misses his old friends, but the cats’ owners keep in touch with Parden.

Since the government shutdown got underway last week, the resulting furlough of federal employees and the closure of public land hasn’t been good news for anyone.

Well, except maybe for bears.

In Fairbanks, Alaska, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for routine maintenance on the grounds of White Mountains National Recreation Area. Due to recent furloughs however, those duties are now delegated to just two rangers remaining on staff. Not surprisingly, making sure all the trash bins along the park’s 1,000,000 acres are emptied on time has proven impossible for the pair.

Despite the shutdown, the sprawling recreation area has remained open for hikers, hunters, and other day-trippers. And while most of those visitors have been careful to safely dispose of their waste, it’s adding up to be a problem.

According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, BLM ranger Jonathan Priday and his one remaining partner can’t keep up with all the trash. Now, opportunistic grizzly bears are clearly enjoying the fact that those formerly impossible-to-paw-open trash cans have been bested by squabbling in Washington D.C.:

Some three weeks ago, Zola managed to wiggle out of her enclosure and flop a short distance across to the Karlsruhe Zoo’s “swan pond.” Since then, she has evaded capture, happy to splash around the pond, which is also inhabited by turtles, fish, ducks and swans, of course.

A seal at a German zoo has quickly become the main attraction after escaping her enclosure and making herself at home in a nearby pond.

ANZEIGE

Some three weeks ago, Zola managed to wiggle out of her enclosure and flop a short distance across to the Karlsruhe Zoo’s “swan pond.” Since then, she has evaded capture, happy to splash around the pond, which is also inhabited by turtles, fish, ducks and swans, of course.

Word of the spirited seal’s adventure in the southern German city has spread, and now there are reportedly long lines of people waiting to catch a glimpse of her. But many have left disappointed. Zola prefers to wait until visitors leave for the day to come out and frolic, zookeeper Irene Schicker-Ney told news agency DPA on Thursday.

She reportedly enjoys swimming around in solitude, and gardeners say they have even seen her spend the night in one of the boats that visitors can use to ride across the pond.

A team of keepers have been working around the clock to take care of the cub, who was initially kept in an incubator.

But the public will have to wait three months to catch a glimpse of Taiwan’s first newborn panda, officials said in July.

The little girl in the meantime is starting to gain some strength and show some interest in things around her.

When held up to her mother’s cage, the cute cub reached out her tiny paws. The mother, transfixed by the tiny bear cub, licked her through the cage.

Staff at Taipei City Zoo have been caring for the miniature panda around the clock.

Their daily routine includes feeding the cub, taking her temperature after each meal, changing her bedding and keeping track of her weight, zoo official Chang Chi-hua said.

Yuan Yuan and her mate, Tuan Tuan, were gifted to Taiwan by China in late 2008 as a cross-Taiwan Strait gesture of goodwill and Yuan Zai is their first cub.
